The trading deadline is here in Major League Baseball. The 2022 MLB trade deadline is set or 6:00 PM ET on Tuesday (Aug. 2), meaning teams have less than four hours to fine-tune their roster ahead of a playoff push in August and September. This year’s trading deadline is not short on intrigue or big names. The greatest name of all — Juan Soto — is on the move. About six hours before the deadline, the Nationals and Padres agreed on a deal that will send Soto (and Josh Bell) to San Diego and a bevy of top prospects to Washington.

Willson Contreras, Ian Happ and Noah Syndergaard are some of the other notable names that could be moved Tuesday night.

The trades fly Tuesday, but some teams haven’t waited to get business done. The Yankees were one of MLB’s busiest teams before the deadline, taking over starter Frankie Montas, outfielder Andrew Benintendi and relievers Lou Trivino and Scott Effross, while sending Joey Gallo to the Dodgers. Before the Soto deal, the Padres made a surprise splash when they took over from the Brewers’ Josh Hader. The Mariners, meanwhile, caused a furore by trading for Luis Castillo, the best available starting pitcher.
